A New Year!

Greetings to One and All!

2011 was a busy year for us - my time in S. Korea, Scott's busy traveling and work schedule - he spent 15 weeks in S. Korea; family needs and various side issues. But I'm looking forward to 2012 and what it will bring. God has sustained us through this year and we know that He will do so in the coming one.

I recently moved my sewing room to the basement - in the family room. And we moved our computer and office upstairs to make it more convenient. So in the process, I began to weed out this and that - things I hadn't used in forever, fabric I never did like! and other tidbits. I'm thankful for charity quilting groups and hey - if you are cleaning or tidying up, don't forget to take your unwanted scraps or fabric pieces to a local group - they are ALWAYS in need of donations and in your own way, you can brighten a child's face with a smile or warm the heart of a lonely senior by themselves.

All that said, I organized and found I don't need to buy anything for 2012! Now gifts are another story! :) But seriously, I want to encourage all of you to take stock, see what half finished projects you have (I have too many!) and think about working on those before you venture out on a new one. We hear so much about going green - I'm all for sharing fabric scraps with friends - why not organize a fabric swap with a few close quilty friends and see how that brightens up your stash!

I have neglected this blog in 2011 but hope to make a regular post once a week. Do drop in and leave a comment - I enjoy hearing from all of you!

Back But Not In Action!

Hello Everyone!

I am home! But not necessarily in action - we arrived home late Saturday night - guess it was actually Sunday morning. Had car troubles but thankfully nothing that can't be fixed! My time in Korea was wonderful - too much to share here now. This week will be unpacking, laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. I'm so anxious to read all your blogs - I tried to keep up a bit while gone but time got away from me. What I've read so far, WOW! you all have been busy!

Do drop me a line when you have time - it will probably be awhile until I get to sewing but I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what you are up to!

TaTa For Now

Hi Everyone -

I was just thinking the other day "boy, I could sure use a vacation" - well they say watch what you wish for right? But this time it is good news! My hubby has been working in South Korea for the past three weeks so I was looking forward to his homecoming. Well, I got a phone call and the customer wants him through June - SO his company came up with the plan to fly me there to spend the next 2.5 months with him. WOW - that was the last thing I expected! So between having to deal with the administration at Mom's assisted living place (things have been going downhill fast!) and get ready to leave the country all in the same week has been overwhelming but I THINK I have all my ducks in a row.

I wish all of you a blessed Easter and happy stitching wherever you are! I don't know if I'll have internet access where we are going to be but if I do, I'll be reading all your blogs!!

I was so thrilled to find out that I won a give away from Kansas Troubles! Below is what I received - Lynne Hagmeier was so generous and I just love the new fabric lines.

So here is my problem - a good one to have :) I have not done anything with such small squares - ever! So I'm hoping to have you all share with me your favorite picture and pattern that utilizes the 2 1/2" squares.

Hi To All!

Here is a picture of a little wall hanging that I started for my Mom.

She moved to assited living in November and wanted something new for her door. It has been fun to dig in the stash and come up with everything I need. Hopefully this will progress quickly as it is small :)

The pattern is from the Australian Country Threads magazine - every once in awhile they will have a folk art/old fashioned pattern that suits me.

I've been thinking about the name of my blog and realized that I like some country, some primitive and lots of rustic decorating - and as I was browsing through my past posts I was seeing an eclectic mix of all three! It is so hard to find rustic patterns and stitcheries - most lean toward primitive or country. So I'm in a bind - maybe it is time to retire "And Then Theres Rustic" and give it a new name - what do you think? Or maybe just start designing rustic items? I'm Back!

Hi Everyone!

Well, I'm finally getting back in the loop - FIL is recovering nicely from his open heart/valve surgery and my Mom is settling into assisted living. October and November disappeared quickly but I'm just thankful we are close to family.

Now here is a quick peak at what I've been working on:

This pattern is available from Kalico Kreations I'm almost done with the hand applique then I can quilt it and get it up for the winter! We've had a few days of snow flurries but no accumulation - sigh, I do love the snow :)

Below is a snowman I made many years ago:

A friend asked if she could make it in a miniature version, so we gave it a try. I had my oldest sis pick out the fabric she wanted for the hatband and scarf - a real prim plaid:

He is a bit small but next to the big one they make a cute pair. Now I just need to do a "mom."

That is about all that is in the works here - not much, but things are moving along. I'm still working on the wool wall hanging and Santa cross stitch I pictured in a previous post - I'll keep you posted as things progress!

Snow Men and Reflections

Hi Everyone!

Well, my FIL had a bit of a set back - his surgery was postponed until Monday Oct 11 - that is why I am posting! I would normally been off the web for a few weeks but wanted to say "hi" to all.

I'm working on a wall hanging that I found at Kalico Kreations. http://www.kalico.com/proddetail.php?prod=KA-83&cat=6 (Click on the second link to see it - I tried to copy a picture here but no go) Kathy has so many fun wall hanging designs - do take time to check out the website. She has a wonderful feature called e-patterns. This is the first site I've seen these on and you can instantly download your pattern once you've purchased it. Very convenient but you all have to watch out the feature could be a problem for quilt-a-holics :)

Take time to stop and smell the roses - life is short! Have you thought about dropping a note to someone who means a lot to you but you never get around to saying that? Or a phone call to an old friend or mentor that helped you along the way in life? Just some food for thought. Happy Stitching!

Time To Start Christmas Projects

Hi Everyone!

WOW! How the time does fly! Here it is September and I'm already behind on Christmas projects. Here are two items that I'm working on for my oldest sister. Each year we go on a shopping trip in July to Amish country and pick out what we want the other one to make. It is great fun and of course lunch out is included :)

This is from a well-known series by Prairie Schooler - this is Santa 1991. I've done three other ones for her and she wants to make them into a pillow. To see all the other great patterns they have just click on Prairie Schooler above for the link.

I'll be "checked out" of Blogland for at least next week and maybe two - my FIL is having open heart and valve replacement surgery. He had open heart surgery 19 yrs but as we all know nothing stays the same. I'll be staying with my MIL while he is in the hospital - we get along so well and enjoy each other's company - I only hope I can be of some help!

Tomatoes, Quilts and a Website!

Hi Everyone!

Strange title? Well, I am so thankful to say that I recently got enough Roma tomatoes to can 14 pints of salsa! Our garden this summer has not been super productive. Next on my list is stewed tomatoes if the plants continue to produce. So that is my little garden story :)

Next is the "quilts" part. My college roommate, Joy, came for a weekend visit and we had a delightful time! I've taken some pictures of quilts she recently made and brought for show and tell. Sadly, my camera does not do her work justice! The first two quilts are ones she made for her daughters and the last one is a "crazy" baby quilt.

Here is a close up - she has utilized chenille along with some fantastic floral prints - it will be so warm and snuggly this winter!

Of course we visited two quilt shops, had a Mexican dinner and chatted about everything and anything. Seems like with roommates that you just pick up where you left off no matter how old you are!

I hope this finds all of you well! Below is Lynette Anderson's Summer stitchery - she has one for each season. I haven't done embroidery is a very long time and am enjoying it. Hopefully I'll have Summer done for next summer :)

My Wool Crazy Spring has been patiently waiting for me - so I've added some more appliques.

There is lots of decorative stitching still to be done but I'm enjoying the relaxing time of handwork. In our society today everything is hurry, hurry, hurry so why not pick up a hand project and enjoy the relaxing pace.

Hi Everyone!

Well, the windows are in! Yea!!!!! We are so thankful that it didn't rain last week - the temps were our hottest yet - in the 90's! We were extremely tired by Thursday night but the siding was back up and all the outside work was done - and no rain!!! Now we will begin the inside work as well as work on the sewing room. One thing at a time :)

Now I must brag about my niece Abbey - she lives in New South Wales, Australia and came home with her boyfriend to celebrate my Mom's 80th birthday! She had a delighful little gift bag for me and guess what was in it?

Yes, a sewing organizer! Do you recognize Rosie the Riveter? Abbey is getting into sewing and embroidery and did this especially for me - isn't it lovely??? I was so surprised and so thrilled - I'll have it forever and her kindness is so appreciated - thank you Abbey and keep up the good work!

No sewing in the near future for me but I plan to post weekly of handwork - do drop by again and tell me what you are working on this summer/winter. Happy Stitching no matter what continent you live on!

This & That

Hi Everyone -

Lots of different things have been keeping me busy lately - a dear friend's daughter graduated and I helped with the party - loads of fun! And then my nephew John graduated and we traveled to Indiana for his party - again, lots of fun and hard to believe two little tots are now on their way to college! Best wishes to them both!

We have been dealing with a gardening headache - maybe I should say nightmare - beside and behind our garage for a few years now. The former owners had beautiful gardens with pathways etc. there but for me - with allergies - I just couldn't keep it up. SO this year we had a landscaper come in and scrape and grade the land and then seed it to grass, as well as leave me space for the veggie garden and raspberry bushes. Here are some before photos:

and after - big difference huh?? I am so thankful we are done with it!!!

I purchased a hosta this year called Abba Dabba Do - it is reported to grow to 5' in diameter! Can't wait to see how it does.

Well that was "this" and now I'll tackle "that!" We are replacing three windows this summer in our house - we kid the Home Depot people that we are on the three year plan for replacing all our windows - they are so expensive! But one will be in my sewing room so that means anything I wanted to do in there should be done before the window gets replaced (by the way, my wonderful husband does the work himself, and I am the grunt worker/helper). So my job now is to remove the wall paper border (yes, I am a Cleveland Indians fan - just not in the sewing room!) and then sand the walls. The previous owners did some kind of funky drywall plaster texture something or other - all that to say it needs to be sanded so I can paint it and have it look nice. Here are the before pics and I'll keep you posted on the after ones!

And a messy closet soon to be filled with shelves for fabric storage - yea!!!!

So between those two projects, I haven't done much sewing and now with the sewing room packed up - well, it will have to been handwork for quite awhile - which I enjoy so that is no problem.

Well, the last two weeks brought work on my favorite pattern - the star! I tend to lean towards patterns that either feature a spectacular star or have stars incorporated in some manner.

Hope this finds all of you well - whether it be spring, summer, fall, or winter where you are!

I'm working on another BOM with a friend - a free one she found on Block Central It is from the 2008 series called Somewhere in Time. As you can see here and probably know from past posts - I'm a Kansas Troubles girl :) I keep looking for the old fabric and am tickled pink when I find it!

I would highly recommend this site as the quilts are beautiful, the patterns are well written, and you can find something for just about everyone's taste. So check it out and let me know what you think!

His Hands at Work

Hi Everyone -

Yesterday was His Hands and with 6 of us we really accomplished a lot! Hang onto your hat because I have oodles of pictures - I was feeling "snap happy" yesterday. I've posted some of the quilts that are finished as well as the industrious women at work. They certainly earned the delightful German Chocolate Cake provided by Becky!

We are blessed to have work for our hands - it is always a joyful time together - encouraging one another and getting caught up from month to month. Thanks for viewing our work and happy sewing!

A Wonderful Way To Learn!

Hi To All!

I have to tell you that through the years I have learned to quilt through books and friends and odd and ends but as a perfectionist ( I know, I know - I just am!) I wanted my blocks to be straighter, my points sharper, etc. you get my drift. Well, I stumbled across this fantastic book I just had to share with you!

It is by Harriet Hargrave who is a wonderfully talented quilter who has been teaching her art for over 30 years. She and her daughter Carrie are working on a series of books called Quilter's Academy. Volume 1 starts at the very beginning - a very good place to start (are any of you Sound of Music fans? If so, then you probably know the rest of the song) Sigh, I digress.

ANYWAY, this book is perfect if you are a beginner or a seasoned quilter - as for me I'm using it to go back to square one and unlearn my bad habits and re-learn so that I'm happier with my quilting!

Volume 2 is due out in a few weeks - can't wait to see what it tackles!

So check it out on Harriet's website www.harriethargrave.com and see all that she has to offer. One of Harriet's most popular books (and I highly recommend it) is Heirloom Machine Quilting.

Another Pinwheel and Stitching Progress

Hi Everyone!

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying whatever you are working on! I just finished another pinwheel for my BOM "Pinwheels in My Garden" by Kansas Troubles
I am just using two colors for contrast in each pinwheel - last month burgundy, this month navy. I really want the stars to steal the show when the quilt is finished.

I've done a bit of stitching on my Wool Crazy block - but not much! I've decided to do this 24" block with the theme of spring - I'm aiming to have it done for 2011 :) Here is my center block - still in need of more embellishments.

Last but not least, I was given a gift certificate to a near by quilt shop back in September but was waiting for just the right thing to purchase. As you all know, I've gone head-over-heels with the Australian stichery/quilting combo so here is what I found by Lynette Anderson - Spring and then Summer:

Wool Fix

Greetings to All!

Yesterday I went with a very dear friend to a wonderful quilt shop in Louisville, Ohio. It is called AnnaLouisas Needlearts and is a delightful shop! Barb Stevens is the owner and she has the shop full of irrestible items. There is a Civil War room, complete with reproduction fabrics as well as a Civil War uniform and pictures.

Then you can travel into the wool room - actually the needlearts room - as it has oodles of wool - both hand dyed (gorgeous!) and on the bolt as well as wool for knitting and also items for embroidery. She has a wonderful 1930's era display and so much more - great pattern selection and extensive wall of notions.

So you are probably wondering - what did Kelli buy? Well........... wool of course! The great thing about this shop is that they bowls and baskets of wool scraps you can sort through and they sell it by the ounce. I plopped down on the floor and went at it. I'm still gathering wool for my Wool Crazy block so it was fun to sort through the scraps and then I purchased pieces of hand dyed wool as well. The pictures don't do it justice! Go online and view them for yourself!

Block of the Month

Hi Everyone -

Don't faint - I actually cut out and pieced the first BOM that I'm doing with my friend Joy! It is the Kansas Troubles "Pinwheels in My Garden" (you can see it on the previous posting). Our quilts will be different so I'm looking forward to watching mine as well as hers "grow." I'm only a few months behind :) but I was pleased with the results.

I'm still plugging along on the Wool Crazy block - I have been pretty picky with my stitches - taking some out since I didn't like how they looked from a distance - too bright for me. SO I'll probably be working on this for months to come but the handwork is relaxing.

Whatever you are doing, take a break, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and pick up your stitching - even for a short while - it will relax your soul. Happy Sewing!

Can It Be March 1???

Greetings Everyone -

I can hardly believe that March is here - where did February go? Time marches on - more quickly that my projects do :) Seems like I have good intentions of working on something but then "something" gets in the way - oh well, what would quilting and stitching be without UFO's?

I'm slowly working on the Wool Crazy Sew Along quilt - it will be a continuous work in progress. Now I need to start cutting out my first on the list 2010 quilt. My college roommate and I live about 4 hours apart and decided to do this as a BOM together. I can't wait to see how each of ours turns out as I'm always changing things (that can be good and bad!) so for now will post the quilt picture and as time progresses will post the results. This pattern is from Kansas Troubles and we are both using a line of Kansas Troubles fabric.

The Wool Bug Has Bitten Me!

Hi Everyone -

I've been out of town for two weeks - my mother-in-law had surgery on both feet - she is such a wonderful "patient" and I enjoyed my time with both my MIL and FIL. I had some "down" time so was able to finish the top of my wool wall hanging. Yes, I know it is an autumn theme - I never got it finished for this past year so I'm telling myself "I'm way ahead of the game - I've got my fall wall hanging done and it is only February" - have you ever done that? I have really enjoyed the handwork and find it relaxing. In this day and age when everyone and everything is on over drive, I'm thankful to have a craft that requires time and is relaxing. So here it is:

Hi Everyone -

I have to share with you my Christmas package from Australia! Dear Ann always sends me such a delightful and generous Christmas parcel - she knows me and my style! As you can see from the picture, I received a gorgeous stocking (don't drool prim lovers!) as well as two Kansas Troubles charm packs; little Mr Snowman is too cute and the calendar is a wonderful display of Australian flowers by the month. A oh-sew-trendy tote pattern rounded out the well stuffed package! One thing I didn't photograph in fear of someone stealing it! was my favorite Australian magazine - Creating Threads - I began to lose all resolve at keeping my promise to not add to the 2010 project list. So that I won't break that, I've picked out my projects from the mag and will post them later as my 2011 list :)

Well, I got my snow :) and I must say it is beautiful! God certainly has created wonderful things for us to enjoy.

I want to introduce you to a wonderful place to shop online. I was looking for a specific piece of Kansas Troubles Garden Inspirations fabric - long gone as you all know how quickly those go! As I searched, I found what I needed offered by a wonderful ebay seller called "quiltkitsnpieces" and she also has an ebay store called "Quilt Kits N Pieces." The owner is Pam and she is a delightfully sweet person - so eager to help and a true believer in excellent customer service. I think you will find it a joy and pleasure to browse her shop and see the excellent selection of Moda that she carries as well as patterns and books. A New Year and New Projects!

Hello To All My BloglandFriends!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! My hubby was off one week so we relaxed and enjoyed our time together but when the alarm rang this morning it was back to business and a regular routine.

I've decided that in 2010 I am going to make the quilt projects I have on hand and also start another hand project. I fell in love with wool while doing my sister's table runner and while browsing the web, I found a book about crazy quilting with wool. I think I'll draw up my own ideas and play around with them before I do any buying, but it is a fun thing to contemplate.

Right now I'm doing a raggedy log cabin quilt for my niece - she wants pastel blue and yellow and that is that! She has very specific tastes and knows what she likes so she picked the pattern and the lights and darks and here we are! I'm hoping to finish it soon so she can have it at college with her still this winter.

I'd love to hear from all of you about what you are going to work on - send me pictures or just drop me a line and tell me what you are up to!

Snowmen - But No Snow?!?!?!?

Hello To All!

It seems like forever since I've posted - I don't know where the time goes! I keep hoping for snow and cold weather and up until today, well, we've had a very mild fall. So I have to be content with my snowman decorations until the real thing falls from the sky! I thought I'd share a few of my favorite ones.

My oldest sister and I saw these little guys last Christmas in a shop in Berlin, Ohio, and she just "had" to buy them for me! They sit on my kitchen window sill and I just love them.

I found this outdoor flag for a steal at Lowe's - when my mother-in-law went to get one similar to it, they had raised the price back to "normal" - go figure!

Last, but not least, a friend and I each made one of these "guys" from a chenille bedspread that was coffee-dyed. He even has coffee beans for his face and buttons. It was a fun time and he has been around for quite awhile - funny thing is - he never melts!

I've started my Christmas baking - how about you all? Drop me a line and send me your favorite Christmas cookie recipe - I'd love to have a collection from my computer buddies! I'm off tomorrow to make truffles with a friend - Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without chocolate right?? :)

Next, I want to share a very quick but tasty recipe - "Crockpot Taco Chicken":

1# boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1C chicken broth
1 pkg taco seasoning

Dissolve the taco seasoning in the chicken broth. Place chicken breasts in crockpot and pour chicken broth over it. Cover and cook 6-8 hours on low. Remove chicken from pot and save broth. With two forks, shredd chicken; return to pot and stir into broth. This can be used in tacos, quesidillas, enchilladas - the sky's the limit! I usually make a triple batch and freeze it in ziploc bags. That way you can pull it out when you want and just let it thaw at room temperature. Since it is already cooked, prep time is quick! Hope you enjoy it :)

Back In The Saddle!

Hi Everyone -

I'm finally back - my husband and I were graciously loaned a cottage to "escape" to for a week - which we did! My oldest sister and her husband built it and were so kind to let us use it for a much needed rest. No phone, no t.v., no computer access! But I didn't go without packing some hand sewing projects so here are the latest photos!

The Christmas table runner is almost finished as you can see - I had forgotten how long it takes to hand stitch but I found it so relaxing and rewarding.

Onto my Double Stitch, as you can see I've put my four hand pieced squares together with a border and have begun to embroider a vine which will have button flowers on it.
Last but not least, I took my wool stash and began to cut out and Wonder Under the wool pieces for my autumn wall hanging. True to my form, I'm altering it - seems like I am always changing patterns - but that is the fun of sewing - you can make what you really want!

I've missed posting and hearing from all of you - drop me a line and tell me what you are working on. Thanksgiving? Christmas? Someone's birthday? I'm always interested in seeing new patterns and projects.

Birthday Surprises!

Hello Friends -

I have to share with you the wonderful birthday package I received from my dear friend Ann in Australia! And one from my college roommate Joy as well! As you see below, Ann made me a sewing machine cover in the Log Cabin pattern accented with buttons.

She also included a recipe booklet, candy(yum!), a pincushion kit, a wool ornament pattern, a wondeful quilt "green" book and a delightfully funny calorie wand - takes away all calories in anything if I wave it over it :)

Such thoughtful and generous gifts from a dear friend so far away - far in distance,but so close in heart.

And I received another wonderful surprise package from my college roommate Joy- this wonderful table runner (perfectly quilted) along with two patterns for small quilts!

Whose toes are those sticking out in the picture? Ike's? How did he do that???

As you can see, I'm greatly blessed with such wondeful friends! I'm excited that I am meeting new ones as this blog gets off the ground! Thanks to all who read and comment - I always look forward to hearing from any and all!

Take care and now I'm going back to my wool table runner - hopefully I'll have pictures of the finished "product" very soon! After that comes a raggedy quilt for my niece. Stay tuned :)

Quilting Day

Hi Friends -

Tuesday was His Hands quilting day and the ladies brought tops and finished quilts for the Harvest Home. These are some of their creations - it never ceases to amaze me how different each one of us is in style and how fun "show and tell" is.

This month - we meet in a library meeting room - there was an English class for immigrants taking place in the next room and their teacher wanted to know if they could come and see our work. They wanted to practice their English :) So when they came over there were "oohhh's" and "aahhh's" but we weren't sure if that was good or bad! We had a lovely day complete with fresh Apple Walnut Cake provided by Janet - a tasty way to end the day! Thanks for letting me share my group with all of you - you are all so supportive! The Double Stitch Returns!

Hi Everyone!

One of my very first posts was about the Double Stitch - well I've started a project with it and am absolutely in love with the look! And I really am enjoying the hand work. Already I am thinking about doing a large wall hanging with it but for now, here is my first finished block!

I plan to make just four of the blocks and then embroider around the outside border. I'll keep you all posted!

Uncle Frank's Socks

Hello Everyone!

Here is a picture of the original pattern "Uncle Frank's Socks" by Carol Hopkins Designs. It is called that because of all the plaids that are used - like the argyle socks of old. But I had to be different and make mine out of Kansas Troubles scraps - so really my "socks" aren't socks after all! Leave it to me to be different :) It is small so it shouln't take anytime to quilt - I'll add it to my "to quilt" pile and save it for a rainy day.

I hope to be posting a bit more now that I've learned how to edit html and move pictures around - it is a continuous learning process for me! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Happy sewing!

Fishin' Stuff

Hi Everyone!

I was thinking that I haven't posted anything too rustic-y in awhile, so I decided to give you a "tour" of my living room. My husband and I found a chair & 1/2 (we are both tall people!) with a fishing motif that we fell in love so that was our first purchase about 7 years ago. Then we found a framed picture we also liked which has the Scripture verse - "Come follow Me and I will make you fishers of men" - I tried to take a picture of the picture and well - it just didn't come out! So here is the chair -

Between those two things, we were off and running! We love to go to flea markets and pick through other peoples "junk" so bit by bit we've been adding to the room. We have four bookcases (but no fishing books!) so I found fish netting and decided to drape that over them. We add "stuff" as we find it - my favorite buy was the ceramic fish with scales! You all will have to be patient with me as I continue to learn about posting pictures!

Charity Quilts

Hi Friends -

The only sewing I've done this week is on charity quilts! I thought I'd post the flyer for our group so you could read it:

HIS HANDS QUILT GROUP

What is His Hands Quilt Group? It is a group of ladies from different area churches who sew quilts for the Harvest Home Rehabilitation Program graduates (The Harvest Home is part of the Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron, Ohio). Each woman who completes the Rehabilitation Program will be able to choose a quilt as a reminder of God’s love for her as she begins her new life.

His Hands Quilt Group is in need of the following donations:

-100% cotton fabric or 100% flannel fabric
-cotton batting
-backing fabric (large pieces or yardage of fabric

Each of us works on a quilt(s) at home and then once a month we meet to help each other finish up whatever needs to be done - tying, labels, etc. We bring a sack lunch and take turns bringing a dessert. One criteria though - it has to be a ooey gooey and of course, no calories :) It is very rewarding and I'd be happy to share more with anyone who is interested!

Greetings Friends -

I want to introduce you to a wonderful place to shop for wool, patterns, etc. - it is called The Little Wool Shoppe. Earlier this year I was in search of a certain Moda wool for a Christmas table runner I featured in a previous post, and had run out of ideas of where to look. Then to my delight, my friend from Australia suggested that I try The Little Wool Shoppe. So I e-mailed the shop inquiring about the certain piece of wool I needed. Much to my surprise and delight, I receieved a response from the owner herself! She didn't stock the piece I needed but was SO helpful in giving me websites to track down the "order number" so she could identify what I wanted. Within a few days, she had responded to my e-mail, directed me where to find pertinent information and ordered what I needed! Now that, my friends, is what I call old fashioned customer service!

Baby, Baby

Hi Friends -

Thank you for all your kind comments - I enjoy hearing from each of you! I know that a baby grocery cart cover is NOT rustic, but I promised photos so here they are :)

It was fun to make but the directions well, let's just say they were "vague!" Have any of you experienced that while sewing or embroidering? I do hope little Elianna will enjoy having a comfy ride.

I'm still working away at my "to do" pile - I have two and a half quilts cut out for my sister and hope to finish that today. I also have some labels to sew on a few charity quilts so after the weekend I should be caught up! Doesn't it seem like the days are shorter than they used to be? Or maybe it's just that I have too many projects :)

Wool Time!

Hello!

Although here in Ohio the weather is hot and humid, I need to start thinking about wool! Each year my sister and I pick out a gift we want made by the other for Christmas. This year I am making a wool table runner - as shown above. This is my first attempt at using "true" wool for a project so I could use any hints that you might have to offer. I am excited about starting it - thank goodness for air conditioning!

On the home front I actually have a week to do some sewing! I made my "to do" list yesterday - after defrosting the freezer - and hope to dig in today. I need to make a baby gift - I'll feature that next time; finish cutting out a quilt for my sister - she is a seamstress and gets stressed with rotary cutting so I do the cutting and she puts the quilt together. In return, I received a nice dress - tailor made!

So drop me a line and let me know what you all are working on - be it winter or summer, there's no place like home! Happy Stitching :)

Can It Be August?

Hello Friends -

It seems like forever since I've posted - in reality about two weeks :) But time is flying by and the summer is on its downward slide. School supplies abound in all the stores, clothing sales for students are running rampant and parents are trying to get organized for the big "first" day!

Or else gardens are finally producing which means canning and freezing for a lot of us. In such a busy rush, I know that many of you may have had to lay aside your quilting for a time - at least until things slow down outside. But let me encourage you to stop and smell the roses and to make time for a bit of hand piecing, embroidery, or maybe just pick up a magazine and dream about your next project. I'm so looking forward to traveling the primitive road together so stay in touch and the next post will have pictures - I promise!

As you can see in this picture, I'm already looking towards fall! Spring and summer are not my seasons - allergies. I love the fall with all the rich colors and absolutely love the winter with snow and cold and ice!
